Craigyhill Girls' Brigade

The Girls' Brigade meets on Monday evenings in our church hall. All girls are welcome.

Our programme is varied and includes crafts, games, educational activities and scripture stories. We are a Christian youth organisation offering a fun programme of activity, challenge and learning for girls.  GB caters for girls aged 3 -18 from any background or ability.  GB is a fun, safe, Christian environment for girls - a place for girls just to be girls!

During the summer break a number of our girls were involved in expedition work for their Duke of Edinburgh award.

Four girls completed their silver level in the Antrim hills while eight girls completed their gold level in the Mournes.  The girls were well trained in map reading and compass work.  They had to carry their tent, cooking equipment, food and extra clothing etc in rucksacks - walking at least 6 hours per day.  This was not easy but the girls cheerfully (most of the time) put their best foot forward and got on with it despite blistered feet and sore shoulders.  Well done girls we were very proud of you!  The girls were well supervised at all times and were joined by girls from other companies in the Larne and Ballyclare areas.

We have a committed team of trained volunteer leaders who ensure that the girls are kept busy each night.
Girls are divided in sections according to their age to enjoy relevant activities and to make friends with others of the same age.  Lifelong friends are made in GB.

If this sounds like something you might enjoy then give GB a go  - we would love to see you.

Craigyhill Methodist Girls’ Brigade is 50!

Were you a member of Craigyhill Methodist Girls’ Brigade?  The company is celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Have you any photographs of your GB days? Please bring them to the Church hall any Monday night by the end of October so we can make copies of them.   We would love to share them with previous and current members at our 60s themed tea party on Monday 18th November 2013 from 7 pm to 8.30 pm and we would like you to join us.

The first captain Maureen Turner began the company in 1963 along with her sister Kaye Aicken.  Lynne Milligan took over as captain in 1980 and we currently have 10 officers who work with our girls on a company night.  The explorers aged 3 to 7 years meet from 6 pm to 7 pm and the company section aged 8 to 18 years meet from 7 pm to 9 pm.  New members are always welcome. Another date for your diary is our dedication and enrolment service on Sunday 1st December 2013 at 11.30 am.

So why not join us in our celebrations and share happy memories of your time with us.
